The soundtrack of this trailer was something that really appealed to me, the trailer starts with a quite a innocent and childish music which creates quite the childish atmosphere. This can either create a false sense of security for the audience immediately within the trailer making them more susceptible to any scares later on in the trailer. Or they may use this as perhaps they know that audiences will expect the trailer to try and lead them into a false sense of security so instead will actually lead the audience to being more on edge and so engaged in the story that the trailer is giving to the audience. After the childlike music has played there is a sudden bass drop in the trailer giving the trailer that impactful moment and giving the trailer a more sinister and dark tone that it was originally hiding. After this bass drop there is an increase in pitch with a screeching sound, this acts as a way to frighten and shock the audiences with such a sudden change in music. The sound then completely disappears again leaving the trailer in silence, this leaves the audience in the dark making them feel that anything can happen and anxious with to what to expect.
Camera work is also used very effectivley within this trailer. One camera type that is used is the tracking shot, this is used at the beginning of the trailer, this type of shot extends the time that the audience are left waiting and are guessing for what is going to happen next, leaving the audience in mysterious circumstances as they're expecting something to happen but simply don't know when it is going to happen. Another shot i particularly liked was the point of view shot, this is effective as it gives the audience an insight into the main characters thoughts and interests and motives within the trailer. It keeps the audience captivated into the story arc of the trailer. Most of the shots that are used are actually quite close typse shots like close ups or long angle shot, this is so that the audience is pulled in very close to what is being represented at that time and being able to see the emotions of the character/characters.
The editing of the trailer is also very appealing to me as a influence, at the start of the trailer the editing is quite slow paced letting the audience take in whats happening and creating a really uneasy tone within the trailer. The editing then really picks up making an impact and cutting from scene to scene really fast. This means that the audience are not able to process all the information in the scenes so they're left trying to piece together all the information that has been given to them.
via GIPHY This editing technique is a really good technique that is used in the trailer, It gives us an insight into the characters unstable mind set. It gives the trailer a more sinister turn captivating and engaging the audience into the trailer. I really liked this editing technique and its something that i do believe will intrigue to try and experiment with in my own trailer to try it myself.
- Trailer length: 2:30 minutes long
Overall i really did like this trailer mainly for its use of sound manipulation and how it can create a scene and make it more impactful to the audience with its use of bass and pitching.
